Stats

EUGENE, Ore. - A save by sophomore Becky Childs (Phoenix, Md.) with 17 seconds remaining gave the University of Denver women's lacrosse a 14-13 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation victory over the Oregon Ducks tonight at Pape' Field. DU improves its record to 10-2 and 4-0 in the conference after winning its eighth consecutive while the Ducks fall to 6-6 overall, 2-2 in the MPSF.

Junior Kristie Leggio (Bay Shore, N.Y.) led DU with eight points off five goals and three assists. Freshman Karen Morton (Adelaide, Australia) added five goals, freshman Steph Coyne (Baltimore, Md.) tallied two goals, including the game winner and one assist and senior Stephanie Greenlees (Lake Forest, Ill.) recorded one goal and two assists in the victory.

Oregon's Alison Leiner scored a school-record six goals.

The Ducks stayed with the MPSF-leading Pioneers in a game that featured nine ties and four lead changes. Oregon did not trail until early in the second half after a three-goal DU run made it 9-8. The Pioneers attempted to stall after taking the lead with 4:36 left, but the Ducks caused two turnovers that resulted in two shot attempts with less than two minutes remaining in the game, including a free position attempt by Jana Bradley with 17 seconds remaining. Childs made one of her 10 saves on that play, preserving the game for the Pioneers.

The Denver Pioneers will take on Stony Brook Saturday at 1 p.m. in a neutral site match at Pape' Field.
