DENVER - Freshman midfielder Caitlin Rollins (Fort Collins, Colo.) scored the lone goal in today's 1-1 double overtime tie against Vanderbilt in the final game of the Commodore Classic. Denver is now 1-0-1.
The Commodores struck first in today's match, with senior Lea Lafield scoring at the 13:53 mark of the first period.
Denver's best chance at a goal in the first half was junior Rachel Fry's (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) shot to the right side of the net at 29:07 which was saved by VU's goalkeeper Tyler Griffin. Vanderbilt maintained the 1-0 lead into the half.
The Pioneers came back from halftime and tied the game with just over 20 minutes remaining in regulation when Rollins took a deflected shot and kicked it in from two yards out.
Both teams had 10 shots and two saves in regulation, with Denver recording the only two shots on goal in the overtime periods.
The Pioneers next contest will be Friday, Sept. 1 against Mississippi at the Colorado Women's Soccer Classic in Boulder, Colo. at 2:00 p.m.
