ASU Hands DU First Loss

Sept. 8, 2006

Las Vegas - The University of Denver women's soccer team suffered its first defeat of the season losing 1-0 against Arizona State on Friday at the UNLV Rebel Classic in Las Vegas. ASU outshot DU, 7-3, and improved to 3-1-1.

"We lost to a good Arizona State team with a lot of talent," head coach Jeff Hooker said. "Either team could have taken the lead before halftime but we just weren't efficient enough to win the game."

Senior Dani Wiley (Littleton, Colo.) stopped six of the seven shots she faced, but allowed just her second goal of the year off the foot of ASU's Laura Kezer.

"Dani made some outstanding saves, two on point blank shots," Hooker said.

Senior Lleane Grimditch (Boulder, Colo.) and juniors Elise Mascitelli (Denver, Colo.) and Taryn Hemmings (Greeley Colo.) each had one shot of goal for DU. Arizona State goalkeeper Kim Bingham posted her third shutout of the season.

Denver will take on UNLV on Sunday Sept. 10 at 2:30 p.m.
