Pioneers Take Down Warhawks, 75-65

DENVER - Led by a game-high 22 points from freshman guard Tyler Bullock (Lincoln, Neb.), the Denver Pioneers knocked off the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks, 75-65.

Denver (2-14, 1-5 SBC) took the lead with two free throws by junior center Adam Tanner (Melbourne, Australia) with five minutes remaining in the first half, and the Pioneers never relinquished the lead, shooting 52.9 percent in the game and 60.0 percent in the second half.

The win snapped an 11-game losing streak for DU, providing the team's first win since beating Northern Colorado on Nov. 19.

Louisiana-Monroe (10-7, 4-1 SBC) entered the game in sole possession of first place in the Sun Belt Conference with a perfect 4-0 record.

Senior guards DaShawn Walker (Chicago, Ill.) and Alex Cox (Brisbane, Australia) each hit a crucial three-pointer with less than two minutes to play, and Bullock and freshman forward Nate Rohnert (Parker, Colo.) sealed the game with two free throws each.

Walker scored 15 points in the contest, while Bullock added a pair of steals.

The Pioneers lead by as many as 21 points in the second half after Walker reeled off eight unanswered points.

Denver led 39-29 at the half, which marked their largest lead since the victory over Northern Colorado on Nov. 19.

The Warhawks were led guards Tony Hooper and Lance Brasher, who scored 19 and 18 points, respectively.

The Pioneers have a few days to enjoy the victory before heading to Miami to meet Florida International (6-8, 1-3 SBC) on Saturday, Jan. 13 at 5:30 p.m. MT as part of a doubleheader with the DU women's team. The game can be heard live on AM 1600 or online at www.DenverPioneers.com.
