DENVER - Junior center Adam Tanner (Melbourne, Australia) scored a career-high 21 points, and senior forward Antonio Porch (Denver) recorded a double-double, but the Pioneers fell to North Texas, 78-65, at Magness Arena on Thursday night.
Porch scored 10 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, giving him his first double-double since Feb. 10, 2005 at Western Kentucky, when he recorded 13 points and 16 rebounds. Porch's last double-double at home was Jan. 22, 2005, when he got 23 points and 10 rebounds.
North Texas (17-9, 8-7 SBC) hit 53.1 percent from the field in the first half, extending the lead to as many as 19 points, but Denver clawed its way back and ended the first half on a 12-4 run, capped by a lay-up by freshman Nate Rohnert (Parker, Colo.) just before the buzzer, that cut the score to 45-35.
Denver (4-22, 3-13 SBC) shot 34.4 percent from the field in the game and just 25.0 percent from three-point range with Tanner hitting all five of the Pioneers' treys, which also established a new career for him.
The Mean Green had five players scoring in double digits, led by Michael Sturns' 13 points.
