No. 46 DU Women's Tennis Defeats No. 72 Louisville

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The No. 46 University of Denver Pioneers defeated No. 72 Louisv ille 5-2 in women's tennis action today at Baseline Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Minnesota. DU won five of six singles matches to earn the win and improve to 5-2 overall. Louisville falls to 4-6 with the loss.
Annette Aksdal (Oslo, Norway), Ute Schnoy (Altenstadt, Germany), Julia Bauregger (Kaernten, Austria), Kyla Iwinski (Marietta, Ga.) and Lorinda Boothman (Naples, Fla.) all won their respective singles matches for DU. Aksdal defeated Natalie Laszkowski 6-4, 6-2 at No. 1 to lead the way. Schnoy defeated Robyn White 6-4, 6-1 at No. 2, while Bauregger edged Jo-Ann Van Aerde 6-1, 1-6, 6-2 at No. 3. Iwinski cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 win over Natalia Baez at No. 5, while Boothman won by default at No. 6.
Louisville won the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2. Rachel Sackmaster (Alpharetta, Ga.) and Marisa Mechem (Fredericksburg, Texas) claimed DU's lone doubles win by default at No. 3.
"Our singles play really carried us today," DU head coach Amy Jensen said. "We'll get a chance to improve our doubles play against Minnesota tomorrow."
The Pioneers play Minnesota at Baseline Tennis Center tomorrow at 10 a.m. MT.
