WINTER PARK, Colo. - John Buchar (Ostersund, Sweden) won the men's slalom Saturday, and Adam Cole (Park City, Utah) finished in second, helping the Pioneers capture the Denver Invitational.

Denver's score of 550 points was 16 better than Colorado (534), which had won the first two meets this season. Utah (505), New Mexico (434) and Montana State (409) rounded out the top five.

Ian Dunlop (Hartland, Wis.) and Sean Higgins (Sun Valley, Idaho) did not finish, so Denver received only two scores in the men's alpine race.

Francesco Ghedina (Cortina, Italy) did not start the race due to a hand injury he sustained during yesterday's giant slalom race.

On the women's side, Claire Abbe (Burnsville, Minn.) was second, Molly Ryan (Big Sky, Mont.) 7th, Karine Falck-Pedersen (Slependen, Norway) finished 14th, Lindsay McClure (Hood River, Ore.) 15th and Jenny Tank (Lenggries, Germany) 17th.

On Friday, winds affected the timing for the giant slalom racers, so results were not made official until this evening.

Cole finished second in the men's race, Buchar was fourth and Ghedina came in seventh for the Pioneers, while Higgins and Dunlop finished in 38th and 45th, respectively.

Tank was the highest finisher for DU's women in the GS at 7th, while Ryan and Abbe scored in 12th and 15th, respectively.

Rene Reisshauer (Erfurt, Germany) once again paced the men's Nordic team, finishing second in the classical race in Steamboat Springs, Colo. John Stene (Trondheim, Norway) was fourth, Mike Hinckley (Anchorage, Alaska) eighth and Havard Selseng (Sogndal, Norway) 10th.

Kara LaPoint (Truckee, Calif.) came in seventh in the women's classical, followed by Annelise Baily (Ruffieu, France) in 11th and Courtney Dauwalter (Edina, Minn.) in 16th.
