Junior Jon Paulson (Denver) and freshman John Dickenson (Dallas, Texas) each tallied hat tricks as the University of Denver men's lacrosse team returned to its winning ways by dropping the University of Hartford, 16-4, Tuesday evening at Barton Lacrosse Stadium.

Denver (4-3) controlled every offensive category in the game. DU nearly doubled UH (1-4) on shots, 41-to-21, held a decided advantage on ground balls, 48-to-20, and won 17-of-23 face-offs. Freshman Ilija Gajic (Burnaby, B.C.), sophomore Brad Richardson (Langley, B.C.) and seniors Brandon Barcus (Dublin, Ohio) and Ryan Shaughnessy (Columbus, Ohio) scored two goals apiece to add to the Pioneers offensive onslaught.

"Tonight was a great opportunity to get back on track after the loss on Saturday," head coach Jamie Munro said. "I was happy with the performances for a lot of different guys."

Nine different Pioneers recorded assists in the game, with junior Michael Goltra (Washington, N.C.) notching two.

The Pioneers set the pace of the game right out of the gate, outscoring the Hawks 3-1 in the opening quarter. Hartford's lone goal of the first period was man-up. Both teams converted on one man-up situation during the game, both coming in the first quarter. DU's defense held the Hawks to one shot and forced eight turnovers in the first quarter.

The Pioneers kept the offensive pressure on, placing three more goals on the scoreboard in the second quarter, to lead 7-1 at half.

Hartford started the second half with a goal before allowing DU to tally four more goals. In the closing quarter, the Pioneers outscored UH, 5-2.

Senior Jeb Hollingsworth (Darien, Conn.) registered the win for DU, stopping four shots and allowing two goals in three quarters, while freshman Peyton Tyrie (Littleton, Colo.) recorded five saves and allowed two goals in the fourth quarter.

The Pioneers' homestand concludes on Saturday, March 17 against Vermont at 1:30 p.m. The game will be aired tape delayed on FSN Rocky Mountain at 8:30 p.m. with Tim Neverett and Geoff Bieging calling the game.
