No. 46 Pioneers Defeat No. 61 Nevada

DENVER - The No. 46 University of Denver Pioneers improved to 8-4 with a 5-2 win over No. 61 Nevada in women's tennis action this afternoon at Stapleton Tennis Pavilion. The Pioneers lost the doubles point, but won five of six singles matches to net their third consecutive win. Nevada falls to 6-5 with its first loss in four matches.
"It could have just as easily been a 5-2 loss - that's how close the match was," DU assistant coach Thibault Schram said. "The girls made it happen today with an incredible display of toughness!"
After losing two of three doubles matches for the doubles point, DU took control of the match by winning three three-set matches after losing the first set in each match. All three matches went to a final set tiebreaker as well. Annette Aksdal (Oslo, Norway) defeated Maria Mizyuk 3-6, 7-6(4), 7-6(9) at No. 1. Rachel Sackmaster (Alpharetta, Ga.) defeated Ly-Huong Dinh 1-6, 6-2, 7-6(4) at No. 3 and Kyla Iwinski (Marietta, Ga.) ousted Alice Hall 2-6, 6-1, 7-6(5) at No. 5. Also claiming singles wins for Denver were Julia Bauregger (Kaernten, Austria) at No. 3 and Lorinda Boothman (Naples, Fla.) at No. 6.
The Pioneers (8-4) host No. 9 William & Mary on Sunday, March 11. The match is scheduled for 12 p.m. at Stapleton Tennis Pavilion.
