Thank you for your interest in the University of Denver Cheer Team. We are currently comprised of 15 member Co-ED team, supporting the men's and women's home basketball games. We travel occasionally and support other athletic programs throughout the year. We are active in the community and participate in several service and outreach activities in addition to various DU events/activities.
Our season runs July through May, with a heavy commitment from November through March. However, you may plan to commit to approximately 4 activities per week with the exception of summer (approx. July-August). Team conditioning, gymnastics, and practices typically take place Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 6-8pm, and could include some weekends. As the basketball season begins, practice sessions are reduced to accommodate game attendance. Team members are required to commit to a heavy, but fulfilling, schedule. Depending on the skill and talent of each year's team, DU may attend summer camp and compete in national collegiate competitions.
Team members receive scholarship assistance for tuition. The financial award increases each successive year on the team and is awarded in the spring quarter. Travel and accommodations for camp, competitions, and conference tournaments, and all expenses for team activities and uniforms are provided by DU. Adidas is the official outfitter for DU athletics and provides the cheer team with sports-wear. Team members receive other tangible benefits through corporate sponsorships.
Members of the cheer team are ambassadors of DU and its athletic department. As such, selection of team members is not only dependent on athleticism, skill, and talent, but also on academic integrity and personal character.
