Benson Leads DU in Sweep of DePaul

DENVER Senior Holly Benson (Colorado Springs, Colo.) led all players with 19 kills, as the University of Denver volleyball team rolled to its third consecutive win, a 3-0 (30-25, 30-23, 30-21) sweep of DePaul Saturday afternoon.

In the first frame of the match the Pioneers led early, but the Blue Demons came back to tie the contest at 6-6 before taking a two-point lead. Benson recorded back-to-back kills to knot the game, 8-8. After two more ties, DU went on an 8-2 run, taking a 19-12 lead midway through the game. In the second set the Pioneers could not shake the Blue Demons early, but then went on an 11-5 run, getting out to a 10-point lead, the largest lead of the match. DU would win 30-23. Benson posted five more kills and six more digs, along with two blocks in the game.
In the third game Denver trailed by two, 9-11, but Hampton recorded a kill, then she held serve for the Pioneers, as DU rattled off seven unanswered points to take a 16-11 lead.
