Pioneers Tie Ragin? Cajuns, 0-0

Box Score

DENVER Sophomore goalkeeper Mackenzie Snyder (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.) recorded her third shutout of the season, but the University of Denver and Louisiana-Lafayette opened Sun Belt Conference play with a 0-0 tie at Pioneer Field on Friday evening.

“It’s disappointing not to get the win today after last weekend,” head coach Jeff Hooker said, referring to his team’s victory over No. 1 Stanford on Sept. 23. “The team came out today and did a lot of things well, but if you don’t finish on the chances you have, it all comes to nothing.”

The Pioneers (3-2-3, 0-0-1) controlled the game, outshooting the Ragin’ Cajuns (4-4-2, 0-0-1), 25-5, which included a 7-0 advantage in the two overtime periods. DU is now 8-0-2 all-time against Louisiana-Lafayette.

Denver swept the SBC portion of its schedule in 2006, going 11-0-0 in the regular season before capturing the SBC Tournament title. The Pioneers did extend its scoreless streak against Sun Belt opponents to six games.

Louisiana at Monroe will travel to Pioneer Field to meet DU on Sunday at noon.
