DENVER University of Denver sophomore forward Tyler Bozak (Regina, Saskatchewan) will undergo arthroscopic surgery on Friday, Dec. 19 to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee, DU head coach George Gwozdecky announced today.
Bozak injured his left knee in a knee-on-knee collision with Andrew Sackrison during the second period of Denver’s 3-2 win over Minnesota State on Friday, Dec. 12. A precautionary MRI taken on Monday revealed the tear. DU team doctor Eric McCarty will perform the arthroscopic surgery.
The high-scoring forward has been ruled out for the Wells Fargo Denver Cup on Jan. 2-3, 2009.
“Tyler will miss the Denver Cup and we’ll know more about his status after the surgery on Friday,” Gwozdecky said.
Bozak ranks second for the No. 5 Pioneers (13-5-1, 9-4-1 WCHA) in scoring with 21 points on seven goals and 14 assists. He leads the team with a +14 plus/minus rating. Bozak led the Pioneers in scoring last season with 34 points on 16 goals and 18 assists.
