Box Score DENVER No. 20 Denver defeated Connecticut 21-13 at Barton Lacrosse Stadium on Tuesday afternoon. Junior Steph Coyne (Baltimore, Md.) recorded nine points on three goals and six assists, placing her second on DU’s all-time single-game assist list.
Sophomore Ali Flury (Arnold, Md.) netted six goals and senior Megan Carver (Baltimore, Md.) had nine points on five goals and four assists. Other Pioneers recording multi-point games include junior Karen Morton (Adelaide, Australia) and freshman Tulley Stapp (Denver, Colo.) with two goals each.
“I was excited that we got a lot of players in the game today,” head coach Liza Kelly said. “I felt that our ball movement and attack were really good today.”
Denver (3-3) got off to a strong start, scoring five of the first six goals. Flury notched three while Morton and Carver each scored one to put Denver ahead 5-1.
Connecticut (0-4) answered with a pair of goals by Whitney Michele and Katy Ryan to bring Connecticut within two. Denver would regain momentum off a pair of goals by Coyne and a pair by Flury, heading to the half with a 10-7 lead.
The Pioneers and the Huskies exchanged a series of goals to start the second half to bring the score to 13-9 in favor of Denver, but Denver would shut the door on a Connecticut comeback, scoring five unanswered goals, including two goals and three assists by Carver.
Senior Becky Childs (Phoenix, Md.) recorded three saves and Katie Gold (Centennial, Colo.) had four. Connecticut goalkeeper Jenna Moulton posted seven.
The Pioneers continue their homestand on Sunday, March 16 against Colgate at 1 p.m.
