EUGENE, Ore. - University of Denver junior Benny Althaus' 6-3, 7-6 win over Romeo Mortera at No. 4 singles clinched a 4-3 win over Oregon this afternoon at Student Tennis Center in Eugene, Ore.
The Pioneers won the doubles point and three of the first four singles matches to earn the weekend split in the Great Northwest. Denver improves to 10-2 with the win, while Oregon falls to 6-7.
Senior All-American Adam Holmstrom (Eskistuna, Sweden) stayed unbeaten in singles and doubles, and Kalle Rosen (Helsingborg, Sweden) won at No. 6 singles for the Pioneers, who bounced back after a 5-2 loss against No. 27 Washington yesterday.
"I was very impressed with the way the guys bounced back after yesterday's disappointing loss against Washington," DU second-year head coach Danny Westerman said. "Oregon is a solid team and we learned a lot this weekend playing against two tough Pac-10 opponents."
Denver returns to action at No. 39 Texas Tech March 8. Match time is slated for 12 p.m. MT.
