Worsley Become DU's First All-American

SEATTLE DU junior and Sun Belt Conference Male Swimmer of the Year Blake Worsley (Steamboat Springs, Colo.), finished in 10th place in the men’s 500 freestyle at the NCAA Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships Thursday, earning the school’s first All-American honors since DU returned to Division I in 1998.

Worsley finished 16th in Thursday’s morning preliminaries with a school-record time of 4:19.68, and followed that by shattering that mark by nearly two seconds, setting a new DU record with a time of 4:17.89 to earn an automatic honorable mention All-American honor in the consolation final. Worlsey moved from the 16th-best time in the preliminaries to finish second in the consolation final and 10th overall.

“I just couldn’t be more excited for Blake’s swim tonight, to become an All-American shows his tremendous dedication to swimming and to DU. For him to improve on his time in the consolation final was spectacular and we’re excited for him,” head coach Brian Schrader said.

DU’s other NCAA Championships competitor, junior diver Aaron Feight (Englewood, Colo.), finished 19th in the men’s 1-meter and will compete in the 3-meter dive on Friday.
