BOISE, Idaho No. 43 Denver battled back after losing the doubles point to defeat No. 73 Brown 5-2 this afternoon in a neutral site match at Boise State University.
No. 8 Adam Holmstrom (Eskilstuna, Sweden) and Niklas Persson (Stockholm, Sweden) earned the only doubles victory for DU with their 9-8 edging of Saurabh Kohli and Basu Ratnam at No. 1 singles. The duo improves to 9-0 on the season.
The Pioneers won five of the six matches in singles play to garner the 5-2 victory over the Bears. Holmstrom remained undefeated at 14-0 with his defeat over Kohli 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 and David Simson (Vienna, Austria) fought back to edge Ratnum 2-6, 7-6, 11-9 in an exciting tie-breaker at No. 3. Benny Althaus (Saarbrucken, Germany) downed Chris Lee 6-4, 6-4 at No. 4, Andrew Landwerlen (Las Cruces, N.M.) beat Noah Gardner 6-4, 6-4 at No. 5, and Kalle Rosen (Helsingborg, Sweden) defeated Kendrick Au 6-3, 7-6 at No. 6.
"I am very happy the way the guys bounced back after doubles,” head coach Danny Westerman said. “Brown has faced a lot of very good teams and came out ready to play, but our guys really stepped up in singles."
With the win, Denver improves to 13-3 on the season. Brown falls to 9-2.
Denver will take on No. 39 Boise State tomorrow afternoon at noon at the Boas Indoor Tennis Center.
