Box Score COLUMBUS, Ohio. Freshman Jamie Lincoln (St. Cathariens, Ontario) set the University of Denver Division I single-season scoring record, but the No. 18 Pioneers fell to No. 11 Ohio State 20-13 in Great Western Lacrosse League action at Ohio Stadium on Saturday.
The two teams battled in front of a NCAA Division I men’s lacrosse regular-season record crowd of 29,601.
Lincoln recorded four goals in the game, his 12th multi-goal game of the season, giving him 39 on the season for the DU Division I scoring record. It surpassed the previous high mark of 36 set by current Pioneer assistant coach Matt Brown in 2005.
The Pioneers (9-5, 3-1 GWLL) tied the game early at 1-1 on an unassisted goal by sophomore Ilija Gajic (Burnaby, B.C.), but the Buckeyes (9-3, 4-0 GWLL) rattled off six unanswered goals to put DU in a 7-1 hole early in the second quarter.
Sophomore John Dickenson (Dallas, Texas) broke DU’s scoring drought with an unassisted goal at 11:22 in the second. Senior Jon Paulson (Flemington, N.J.) would add a goal at 2:50 remaining in the first half, but DU trailed 13-3 at the break.
Dickenson’s second goal of the game at 1:18 remaining in the third pulled DU within six, but the Pioneers could not close the gap on the Buckeyes.
Dickenson and junior Cliff Smith (Surrey, B.C.) each had two goals in the loss.
OSU’s Joel Dalgarno had nine goals and one assist in the game.
DU wraps up the 2008 regular season on Saturday, April 26 at Air Force at 1 p.m.
