Pioneers Blank Middle Tennessee 4-0

MONROE, La. - The No. 28 University of Denver's quarterfinal match at the 2008 Sun Belt Conference women's tennis championships was pushed back a day because of rain. The top-seeded Pioneers responded in fine fashion by blanking the Blue Raiders 4-0 early Saturday morning.
DU claimed the doubles point and three quick singles wins to improve to 20-2 overall by advancing to the semifinals later today against Louisiana-Lafayette or Troy. Middle Tennessee falls to 9-15.
The No. 53 doubles pair of Mallory Voelker (Dousman, Wis.) and Julia Bauregger (Klagenfurt, Austria) defeated Stephanie Parkison and Marlene Chemin 8-3 at No. 1. Annette Aksdal (Oslo, Norway) and Bhavani Tirumurti (Jakarta, Indonesia) clinched the point with an 8-4 win over Pooja Kommireddi and Shannon Hartmann at No. 3.
Aksdal made it 2-0 win an easy 6-1, 6-0 win over Stephanie Parkison at No. 2 singles. Kyla Iwinski (Marietta, Ga.) made it 3-0 with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Andrea Herrera at No. 5. Voelker clinched the 4-0 win with a 6-1, 6-1 win over A.K. Siljestrom at No. 1 singles.
"The team was really anxious to play after a long day yesterday," DU head coach Amy Jensen said."We played really well in doubles and singles today. Hopefully, that will carry over for the rest of the tournament."
