Pioneers Roll Past Louisiana-Lafayette

MONROE, La. - The No. 28 DU women's tennis team will play for its first Sun Belt Conference title since 2004. The Pioneer claimed a 4-1 win over Louisiana-Lafayette tonight in the semifinals and will play Florida International in the finals of the 2008 SBC championships.
The Pioneers won the doubles point and three of the first four singles matches to gain their school-record 21st win.
"We're excited to be playing for the championship tomorrow," DU head coach Amy Jensen said. "We've played well and the team is really focused on winning the championship."
Ute Schnoy (Altenstadt, Germany) and Kyla Iwinski (Marietta, Ga.) won 8-3 at No. 2 doubles and No. 53 Mallory Voelker (Dousman, Wis.) and Julia Bauregger (Klagenfurt, Austria) won 8-5 at No. 1.
After Louisiana-Lafayette netted a win at No. 3 singles, the Pioneers stormed back with three straight singles wins clinch the match.
Bhavani Tirumurti (Jakarta, Indonesia) won at No. 6, Voelker at No. 1 and Annette Aksdal (Oslo, Norway) clinched the win at No. 2. DU brings a six-match winning streak into tomorrow's final.
