Pioneers Blank Jaguars 4-0

DENVER - Junior forward Lauren Cavarra (Littleton, Colo.) had one goal and one assist as the University of Denver women's soccer team shut out the University of South Alabama Sunday afternoon at the University of Denver Soccer Stadium. 

Denver (10-4-1, 5-1-0 SBC) struck first with a goal in the 34th minute by Cavarra, who buried a rebound off a shot by freshman forward Kalie Vaughn (Fort Collins, Colo.).

The Pioneers scored again 10 minutes later, when freshman forward Kaitlin Bast (Centennial, Colo.) drew the USA goalkeeper out on the left side and passed to sophomore forward Taylor Bailey (Loveland, Colo.), who gave a touch pass to sophomore midfielder Kari Storslett (Bakersfield, Calif.) for the goal.

Storslett's goal gave DU a 2-0 lead at halftime, after holding a 17-3 shooting advantage over South Alabama (4-7-2, 0-3-1 SBC) in the first half. DU outshot USA 32-4 in the game.

Less than two minutes into the second half, the Pioneers scored again. Sophomore midfielder Bria Beardsley (Mission Viejo, Calif.) drilled a shot off a pass from Vaughn.

Senior midfielder Lizzy Carlson (Honolulu, Hawaii) added another DU goal with just under 19 minutes remaining in the game, drilling a shot off an assist from Cavarra.

The Pioneers next travel to Arkansas State on Oct. 16 and Arkansas-Little Rock on Oct. 18.
