No. 42 Denver Falls at No. 5 Cal, 5-2

BERKELEY, Calif. - No. 42 Denver battled No. 5 Cal in a 5-2 loss this afternoon at Hellman Tennis Complex. DU's seven-match winning streak ends with the loss. DU head coach made her first return back to Cal, where she starred for the Bears during her career.
Cal won the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead, but DU's Bhavani Tirumurti (Jakarta, Indonesia) tied the match with an impressive 6-0, 6-0 win over Catalina Visico. Cal rebounded with wins at No. 3, No. 2, No. 1 and No. 4 to clinch the match with a commanding 5-1 lead.
DU's Julia Bauregger (Klagenfurt, Austria) won at No. 4 singles to make the final score, 5-2.
"Today was a chance to mix it up with a top-10 opponent," DU head coach Amy Jensen said. "We learned a lot about what it takes to be succesful at the elite level of collegiate tennis. I was encouraged from what I saw in our team and it will help us come NCAA tournament time."
The Pioneers (8-4) play at Long Beach State on Saturday, March 21.
