TEMPE, Ariz. The No. 16 University of Denver women’s golf team finished ninth at the ASU/Ping Invitational at the ASU Karsten Golf Course in Tempe, Ariz.
The Pioneers posted a 15-over par 303 to finish the tournament with a 46-over par 910, three strokes behind eighth-place Pepperdine. Oklahoma State won the tournament with a 17-over par 881, just one stroke ahead of Purdue.
Senior Katie Kempter (Albuquerque, N.M.) led the Pioneers in a tie for 23rd with a 10-over par 226 after shooting a 2-over par 74 on Sunday.
Senior Dawn Shockley (Estes Park, Colo.) shot a five-over par 77 on Sunday to end the tournament in a tie for 33rd place at 12-over par 228, followed by junior Stephanie Sherlock (Barrie, Ontario) who finished one stroke behind Shockley in a tie for 36th place.
Sophomore Ellie Givens (Darlington, England) and freshman Sarah Faller (Galway, Ireland) both tied for 55th place with a three-day total of 17-over par 233.
Denver next looks for its sixth-straight title at the Sun Belt Conference Championships in Houston, Texas, on April 20-22.
