Denver Shuts Out Louisiana-Monroe 6-0

Box Score

DENVER - Freshman forward Kaitlin Bast (Centennial, Colo.) scored two goals and had two assists, helping the University of Denver women's soccer team beat Louisiana-Monroe 6-0 at the University of Denver Soccer Stadium Friday night.

Denver (6-3-1) tallied its first goal just 3:42 into the game, when junior defender Jessie Rogers (Fort Collins, Colo.) scored on a corner kick by sophomore midfielder Bria Beardsley (Mission Viejo, Calif.).

"This win was a good way to bounce back after two tough losses last weekend," head coach Jeff Hooker said. "The game was consistently played well, no matter which players were in the game, and that is what I am most proud about tonight."

The Pioneers put two more on the board in the 15th minute. Freshman midfielder Katy Van Lieshout (Boulder, Colo.) passed to Bast, who served to senior midfielder Kelli Breidenbach (Fort Collins, Colo.) for the one-timer.

Just 30 seconds later, Bast took the ball up the right side and passed to freshman forward Kalie Vaughn(Fort Collins, Colo.) for another one-timer.

Bast got a goal of her own in the 21st minute, when she took a pass from sophomore midfielder Kari Storslett (Bakersfield, Calif.), dribbled around the ULM goalkeeper and tapped the ball into the goal.

In the 53rd minute, senior midfielder Lizzy Carlson (Honolulu, Hawaii) took a shot that was saved, but Van Lieshout scored on the rebound.

Bast scored DU's final goal of the game in the 83rd minute. She took the pass from senior forward Brooke Lamphere (Highlands Ranch, Colo.), dribbled around two Warhawk defenders and beat the goalkeeper.

Pioneer goalkeeper Maria Khan (Aurora, Colo.) recorded her first career shutout with five saves, while Mallory George and Alex Holland each played a half for ULM (1-6-2).

The Pioneers take on Louisiana-Lafayette at the University of Denver Soccer Stadium on Sunday at noon.
