DENVER - Former women's basketball player Andie Mason was added as an assistant coach by Southwest Minnesota State University's women's basketball head coach Mike Jewett this past summer.
Mason, a native of Gilbert, Ariz., recently completed a four-year career with the Pioneers, where she played in 108 career games recording 463 points, 133 rebounds, 106 assists and 60 steals. She connected on 123 career three-pointers, ranking fifth in school history, and shot 34.7 percent from three-point range to rank 11th in the DU career record book.
"Andie was always a player who understood the game from a coaching, scouting and preparation standpoint so we knew that she had the tools to be an excellent coach," said head coach Erik Johnson. "I'm thrilled that she has chosen to enter our profession. I knew Andie had the passion for coaching when she decided to attend every possible workout this last spring after finishing her eligibility just to increase her knowledge of player development at every position. I know that coach Mike Jewett at SMSU made a great hire in Andie."
As a senior in 2008-09, Mason started 25 games, averaging 8.2 points and 1.3 assists per game and led the Pioneers with 65 three-pointers. Her precision shooting from behind the arc tied her for second for a single-season output at DU.
Mason earned her bachelor's degree in business marketing from DU in 2009 and is currently pursuing her master's degree in sports management from SMSU.
