Denver Blanks Colgate 1-0 in Double Overtime

Box Score

BOULDER, Colo. - Senior midfielder Kelli Breidenbach (Fort Collins, Colo.) scored 2:40 into the second overtime from an assist by Mariah Johnston (Littleton, Colo.), as the University of Denver women's soccer team defeated Colgate 1-0 on Sunday afternoon in the Colorado Soccer Classic at Prentup Field.

The game marked the third-straight game to go into double overtime for the Pioneers (3-1-1), who out-shot the Raiders (1-2-1) 23-4 in the contest.

The game was a defensive battle through the first half, as neither team had a shot on goal in the first 45 minutes, although DU out-shot Colgate 7-2.

Denver's best chance before the break was just 2:16 into the contest, when sophomore midfielder Bria Beardsley (Mission Viejo, Calif.) drilled a shot to the upper left of the goal, but the ball hit the crossbar.

The score remained locked in a scoreless time through the first 90 minutes, sending the game into overtime.

Three minutes into the first overtime, freshman forward Kaitlin Bast (Centennial, Colo.) fired a shot on net, but Colgate goalkeeper Ashley Walsh made a diving stop. On the ensuing corner, freshman midfielder Katy Van Lieshout (Boulder, Colo.) had a shot that went wide.

The Pioneers next head to Colorado Springs next weekend for the Colorado College Invitational. Denver faces Kansas on Sept. 11 at 1:30 p.m. and Texas Christian on Sept. 13 at noon.
