No. 21 Denver Defeats FAU 3-0

Box Score DENVER - Sophomore forward midfielder Kalie Vaughn (Fort Collins, Colo.) scored a goal and an assist as No. 21 Denver won its eighth straight game, defeating Florida Atlantic 3-0 on Friday night at CIBER Field.

The Pioneers (13-2, 7-0 SBC) remain the only unbeaten team in the Sun Belt Conference.

"This was a good way to start the weekend," head coach Jeff Hooker said.

The Pioneers took an early 1-0 lead over the Owls (4-10, 3-4 SBC) when a shot from Bria Beardsley (Mission Viejo, Calif.) from above the box deflected off of the left post and trickled into the goal at 5:31. Vaughn assisted on the goal.

Sophomore Kaitlin Bast (Centennial, Colo.) put Denver up 2-0 when she tapped in a cross from freshman Kristen Hamilton (Littleton, Colo.) at 23:46.

"One of our goals was to try to press them and get an early goal, which we did," said Hooker. "To score again before halftime was well deserved and helped us to set the tempo for the rest of the game."

DU went up 3-0  when Vaughn capitalized on freshman Nicholette DiGiacomo's (Golden, Colo.) pass in the 56th minute.

Sophomore goalkeepers Lara Campbell (Anchorage, Alaska) and Maria Khan (Aurora, Colo.) made five saves and one save, respectively, as the duo combined for the Pioneers' sixth shutout in conference play.

DU outshot the Owls 28-8 and held a 9-2 advantage in corner kicks.

The Pioneers will play against Florida International on Sunday.
