Box Score DENVER - The University of Denver sophomore forward Kaitlin Bast (Centennial, Colo.) scored two goals and freshman midfielder Nicholette DiGiacomo (Golden, Colo.) had two assists to lead the No. 25 Pioneers to a 4-0 shutout over Louisiana-Monroe at CIBER Field on Sunday afternoon.
"Louisiana-Monroe came out with a game plan and gave us trouble early in the game," head coach Jeff Hooker said. "We were glad to get our second goal in the first half, which is something we couldn't do Friday. Our third goal increased our confidence and made the difference in how we played the game. We are proud to get another shutout, which was helped by good defense in the second half."
Sophomore forward Kalie Vaughn (Fort Collins, Colo.) once again gave the Pioneers (10-2, 4-0 SBC) an early lead, dribbling through two defenders and beating the ULM goalkeeper off an assist from DiGiacomo.
In the 22nd minute, Bast scored off a rebound in the box from a shot by DiGiacomo, the fourth-straight DU goal that DiGiacomo earned an assist.
Vaughn dribbled up the left side, beat a pair of defenders and flicked a pass to Bast, who scored her second goal of the game in 65th minute.
Freshman midfielder Stephanie Woo (San Mateo, Calif.) scored her first career goal in the 84th minute, drilling a shot from just outside the box off an assist from senior defender Megan Flannery (Littleton, Colo.).
Sophomore goalkeeper Lara Campbell (Anchorage, Alaska) recorded three saves and combined with sophomore goalkeeper Maria Khan (Aurora, Colo.) for the shutout. ULM goalkeeper Alex Holland made 11 saves in the contest.
Louisiana-Monroe (2-10-1, 0-4 SBC) managed just four shots in the game, while Denver had 27. The Pioneers also led 4-0 in corner kicks.
The Pioneers hit the road next weekend to face South Alabama on Friday and Troy on Sunday.
