The 2011-12 University of Denver hockey team has bolstered its offense, defense and goaltending with the addition of 10 freshmen. For 10 weeks, one freshman per week will be introduced to Pioneer Nation with a video interview below.
This week's freshman is: Scott Mayfield.
Mayfield, a defenseman, brings size and physicality to the Denver blue line. The St. Louis, Mo., native was named to the 2011 United States Hockey League All-Star Team and was also recognized as the Most Valuable Player at the 2010 World Junior A Challenge. He was selected by the New York Islanders in the second round (34th overall) of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. Mayfield will sport number 2 for the Pioneers this season.
