Savelletri, Italy - Former University of Denver men's golfer Espen Kofstad won the Apulia San Domenico Grand Final Saturday in Savelletri, Italy. The victory in the Challenge Tour's final event of the season netted Korstad €56,650, making him the tour's top money winner for 2012 with €131,099 and giving him the title of Challenge Tour Number One.
"All Pioneers are very proud of Espens accomplishments this season," Denver head men's golf coach Eric Hoos said. "Winning the final event to capture the No. 1 ranking on the Challenge Tour is just icing on the cake. This season shows all the hard work Espen has put in has paid off, and I know that he will be very successful playing on the European Tour starting in 2013. Congrats to Espen and his parents, Erling and Gro."
Kofstad opened the four-day tournament with a first-round six-under 65, before shooting a five-under 66 in his second round and a pair of four-under 67's in his third and fourth rounds. The former Pioneer finished with a 19-under 265, narrowly edging James Busby and Joachim B. Hansen by one stroke.
The tournament win was Kofstad's second of the year, and his position in the rankings has ensured him a place in next season's European Tour.
