No. 19 Denver and Louisiana Tech Draw, 1-1

Box Score

RUSTON, La. - The No. 19 University of Denver women's soccer team and Louisiana Tech drew 1-1, on Friday evening at the Techster Soccer Complex.

"In the first two weeks of conference play, we've played two teams that have celebrated ties, and for us that's just not good enough," head coach Jeff Hooker said. "Before conference started, we played a lot of good teams, played well as a team and got great results. I think what we are seeing now is a team that thought we were really good, has begun to cut corners a little bit and has started to play with individual mentalities. We need to go back to the drawing board, revamp our system and begin to play with the mentality that we played with in the nonconference season."

After a scoreless opening 45 minutes, senior forward Katy Van Lieshout (Boulder, Colo.) broke the deadlock with her fourth goal of the season. Junior defender Cassidy Larson (Eldorado Springs, Colo.) took a shot from 20 yards out that rattled the crossbar and fell to the feet of Van Lieshout, who scored from inside the six-yard box.

The Lady Techsters (9-1-3, 0-0-1 WAC, 1 pt) equalized in the 88th minute off a bouncing ball in the box on a set piece. Emily Brennan scored the goal for La. Tech, her sixth goal of the season.

Denver (9-1-4, 1-0-2 WAC, 5 pts) had two chances to grab the golden goal in the second period of extra time. Senior midfielder Kalie Vaughn (Fort Collins, Colo.) hit the crossbar with a shot from outside of the penalty area in the 105th minute, and junior forward Kristen Hamilton (Littleton, Colo.) sailed a volley high from 12-yards out in the 109th minute.

The Pioneers held a 17-7 advantage in shots and a 7-0 advantage in corners.

The Pioneers are idle during Sunday's WAC action. Denver resumes play next Friday at New Mexico State at 3 p.m. MT.
