Daffinrud Named WAC Golfer of the Month

DENVER - University of Denver women's golfer Tonje Daffinrud (Tonsberg, Norway) has been named the Western Athletic Conference Golfer of the Month for the month of October, the conference office announced on Thursday.

"I couldn't be more pleased for Tonje," head coach Sammie Chergo said. "She represents everything good about Denver golf. She's competitive, she's dedicated and she's passionate. To see her have this kind of success isn't surprising, she's a very talented golfer. I look forward to her getting to relax a little bit during the offseason, before coming back in the spring to continue to work on her game, and enjoy the game of golf."

Daffinrud competed in three tournaments during the month, finishing in the top 10 in all three.  She opened October with a tie for fifth at the Liz Murphey Fall Preview in Athens, Ga. (69-75-72-216).  Daffinrud then placed 10th at the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic in Norman, Okla., with a five-over par 221 (68-78-75).  This past week, she capped off the month with a seventh-place finish at the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational at one-under par (72-70-73-215).  She had five rounds at par or better and averaged 72.44 strokes per round, the best in the WAC.

The Pioneers will take the winter off, before kick-starting their spring season in the Central District Invitational, February 18-19 in Parish, Fla.
