Fourteen Pioneers on NCAA Skiing All-Academic Team

DENVER - Fourteen University of Denver skiers earned a spot on the NCAA Skiing All-Academic Team, the United States Collegiate Skiing Coaches Association announced.

The following Pioneers earned All-Academic honors for achieving a 3.50 grade point average or better: Andrew Dougherty (Anchorage, Alaska), Charlie Reynolds (Park City, Utah), Grant Jampolsky (Squaw Valley, Calif.), Max Marno (Steamboat Springs, Colo.), Trygve Markset (Oslo, Norway), Trevor Philp (Calgary, Alberta), Devin Delaney (North Conway, N.H.), Elena Breed (Durango, Colo.), Jessica Jortberg (Boulder, Colo.), Karlie Moore (Vail, Colo.), Kate Dolan (Bozeman, Mont.), Lindsay Cone (Killington, Vt.), Makayla Cappel (Sun Valley, Idaho)and  Mari Elden (Namdalseid, Norway).

Denver's 14 honorees were the third most in the Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Skiing Association. Alaska Anchorage and Montana State both had 17 skiers on the list. In all, 82 athletes where honored from the six NCAA-affiliated schools within the RMISA.

The Pioneers finished sixth at the 2012 NCAA Championships, as freshman Espen Lysdahl (Asker, Norway) won the men's slalom individual title, joining sophomore Sterling Grant (Amery, Wis.) as first-team All-Americans. Dougherty and Cappel both raced to second-team All-American honors.
