DENVER - Former University of Denver athletic training intern Katie Forsyth returned to DU as the newest assistant athletic trainer for the Sports Medicine Department, Director of Sports Medicine Julie Campbell announced today.
Forsyth will work primarily with women's basketball while also overseeing women's lacrosse.
"I'm excited to welcome assistant athletic trainer Katie Forsyth back to the University of Denver," Campbell said. "She brings a great wealth of knowledge and experience from Michigan State and the University of Oregon. Her enthusiasm and positive spirit will make her a great addition to the sports medicine team at DU."
Forsyth was an intern for the Pioneers from August 2009 to June 2010, working as the primary athletic trainer for the men's soccer and women's lacrosse teams. After leaving DU, Forsyth served as a two-year graduate assistant at the University of Oregon, while working on her Master of Science in athletic training.
During her time with the Ducks, Forsyth provided comprehensive support for the 2011-12 football team and the 2010-11 volleyball team. She trained in advanced clinical skills including muscle energy technique, strain counterstain, Graston® technique, joint mobilization, Pilates, facilitative stretching and neurodynamic techniques.
Forsyth received her Bachelor of Science in athletic training from the Department of Kinesiology at Michigan State University in May 2009. During her undergraduate work, she served as an athletic training student, working with track and field, football, women's swimming and diving, wrestling, cheerleading, dance, volleyball and field hockey teams.
Forsyth is a member of the Northwest Athletic Trainers' Association, the National Athletic Trainers' Association, Michigan Athletic Trainers' Society and National Society of Collegiate Scholars. She is also certified in fundamental and advanced kinesio taping KT1 and KT2, Graston® Technique Module 1, Athletic Trainer and American Red Cross CPR/Professional Rescuer/AED.
