Box Score DENVER - The University of Denver women's soccer team drew 0-0 with Utah State Sunday afternoon in Western Athletic Conference action at CIBER Field at the University of Denver Soccer Stadium. The tie extended No. 18 Denver's unbeaten streak to 12 matches.
"I think that Utah State came back really well after playing an overtime game Friday," head coach Jeff Hooker said. "They had a lot of energy and they gave us some trouble. In the end, we created some really good chances. I think the thing that sums it up is we had 24 shots and only six were on goal."
Utah State (5-2-6, 0-0-2 WAC) had the closest chance of the first half when Mari Miyashiro fired a free kick from 25 yards out that stung the crossbar in the 12th minute, but the ball bounced harmlessly out of play and the teams went into the intermission scoreless.
Denver (9-1-3, 1-0-1 WAC) opened the second frame with a scoring opportunity of its own in the 48th minute, but freshman forward Taylor Ivins' (West Haven, Utah) shot from six yards out pinged off the right post and bounced away from goal.
Miyashiro had another scoring opportunity from close range in the final minute of the second overtime, but a sliding save from senior goalkeeper Lara Campbell (Anchorage, Alaska) preserved the draw.
The Pioneers outpaced the Aggies 24-10 in shots and 10-1 in corners.
Denver will play its first away conference match in the WAC next week, as the Pioneers travel to Louisiana Tech next Friday. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. MT.
