DENVER – Seniors Oskar Arvidsson (Karna, Sweden) and Tonje Daffinrud (Tonsberg, Norway) were recognized by The Summit League Conference as Golfers of the Month for their October tournament performances.
“Oskar has done a very nice job for the team this fall,” said head coach Eric Hoos. “He has consistently played well tournament-to-tournament. I’ve always known he’s had it in him to play well. I look for him to score even better this coming spring.”
Building off a tournament title in the season-opener, Arvidsson continued great golf through the fall season and earned his first career award after recording a 71.17 stroke average during the month with a pair of top-10 finishes. At the Bill Ross Intercollegiate, the senior fired a 54-hole score of 219 (72-77-70) to place eighth in the tournament. He also took eighth place at the Pacific Invitational after his three-round score of 208 (69-70-69). Arvidsson leads the league with a 71.7 stroke average to close out the fall season.
The nation’s 29th-ranked collegiate women’s golfer, Daffinrud had a brilliant month of October with two tournament top-five finishes, a 210 54-hole performance that landed her amongst the best in DU program history, a hole-in-one, an invitation to a World Class Amateur Golf Tournament, and now The Summit League’s Golfer of the Month, with an under-par 70.17 stroke average.
“I am so proud of how Tonje played and competed this past month,” said head coach Lindsay Kuhle. ”Finishing in the top-10 in the last two events and averaging just over 70, says a lot about her game right now. She has improved her long and short game and has the confidence to shoot under par in every round she plays. Shooting a 65 and 68 is very impressive and I couldn't be happier for Tonje. This honor is well deserved.”
IUPUI’s Ryan Porter share CO-Golfer of the Month honors with Arvidsson. Porter had a pair of top-10 finishes, along with a 71.25 stroke average during the month of October.
Both Denver golf teams finished its fall season last week, and will enjoy a break before the men return to action Feb. 10 for the Farms Collegiate Invitational, while the women’s squad return to competition Feb. 15, for the Peg Barnard Stanford Invitational.
