Denver Hockey Jumps Back into National Rankings at No. 20

DENVER – The University of Denver hockey team is ranked No. 20 in the latest USCHO.com poll and received the 23^rd-most votes in the most recent USA Today/USA Hockey poll, which were released this week.

The No. 20 slot for the Pioneers in the USCHO.com poll marks a return to the national rankings for Denver following a six-week absence.  The Pios were last ranked in the USCHO.com top 20 on Oct. 21, when they checked in at No. 17.

Denver received a total of two votes in the USA Today/USA Hockey top 15 – tied with New Hampshire for 23^rd most.

The Pioneers had put together a seven-game unbeaten streak, which marked their longest stretch without a loss since they won seven consecutive contests from Nov. 12-27, 2010, prior to a 4-2 loss at No. 12/12 Miami in their most recent action last Saturday. 

For the season, Denver sits at 8-6-2 overall and 4-3-1-1 in NCHC play and has gone unbeaten in seven of its last eight games overall.  

St. Cloud State holds the top spot in the USCHO.com poll, while Minnesota is No. 1 in the USA Today/USA Hockey rankings.

Denver will continue its season-long five game road swing next week as it heads to Troy, N.Y., for a two-game non-conference series at No. 18/RV Rensselaer (RPI) on Fri.-Sat., Dec. 13-14.  The Pios will close out the trip with a rare Tuesday night contest at UMass in Amherst beginning at 5 p.m. (MT) on Dec. 17.
