Pioneers Defeat Idaho 6-1 to Win Second Straight

ARLINGTON, Texas – The University of Denver No. 58 women's tennis team defeated Idaho 6-1 on Friday in Arlington, Texas.
The Pioneers won two of three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead. Senior Emma Isberg (Tyreso, Sweden) and sophomore Mandy van den Eerenbeemt (Best, Netherlands) defeated Idaho’s Rita Bermudez and Beatriz Flores 8-6 in No. 2 doubles play. Junior Caroline Schnell (Greenwood Village, Colo.) and freshman Kathryn Hughes (Wrexham, Wales) picked up their third straight defeating Alejandra Lozano and Sophie Vickers 8-6.
In singles, senior Sophia Bergner (Schechen, Germany) beat Almudena Sanz 6-4, 6-2. Isberg claimed a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Idaho’s Constance Alexander. Hughes defeated Beatriz Flores 6-1, 6-7 (8-6), (12-10), and senior Steffi Rath(Höchst, Austria) rolled past Sophie Vickers in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1. The victory improves the Pioneers to 9-3 this spring season.
The Pioneers will be back on the road as they travel to Louisiana Tech to face UT- Santonio on Friday March 29 and the Lady Techsters on Saturday March 30.
