Haugen Wins Giant Slalom Individual NCAA Championship

HANCOCK, Vt. - University of Denver freshman Kristine Haugen (Lommendalen, Norway) won the NCAA individual championship in women's giant slalom, one of five Pioneers to earn All-America honors on Wednesday, putting DU in second place after the first day of the NCAA Championships at the Middlebury College Snow Bowl.

Haugen, whose brother Leif Kristian Haugen won the 2010 men's GS for the Pioneers, finished with a time of 2:04.60, beating Colorado's Brooke Wales by 1.33 seconds. Haugen is just the second Pioneer women's skier to take the individual national title in GS, joining Ida Dillingoen who won in 2011.
