Box Score DENVER – Senior Nicholette DiGiacomo (Golden, Colo.) scored with less than three minutes left to help the No.19 University of Denver women’s soccer team beat No. 17 Brigham Young University 1-0. With the win, the Pioneers improve to 8-1-1 on the season.
“It was a great road win against a very talented and athletic team,” said head coach Jeff Hooker. “The first half was kind of back and forth. Ultimately, we kept persevering. The keeper made a couple great saves and we finally got one passed her.”
With 2:59 left in the second half, DiGiacomo scored off of a pass from senior Kristen Hamilton (Littleton, Colo.). DiGiacomo netted her fifth goal of the season, while Hamilton tallied another assist, giving her six on the season.
Junior Sam Harder (Centennial, Colo.) recorded 2-of-3 shots on goal. DiGiacomo added five shots and Hamilton had two. The Pioneers outshot the Cougars 11-10 in the match.
In her first career start, senior Amelia Davis (Palisade, Colo.) notched a shutout and recorded five saves.
“I thought that individually Amelia, in her first start in an NCAA game was absolutely sensational,” Hooker said. “To go on the road in an environment like that to keep her cool and make some great saves was tremendous. Our back four were outstanding today. Everyone in the attack was very composed and precise. A few things that have been missing came through in the game today. It was good to see Kristen and Nicholette hook up again on the goal. ”
The Pioneers continue on the road at UC-Santa Barbara on Sunday at 12 p.m.
