INDIANAPOLIS - The University of Denver women's soccer team suffered a 2-0 setback to IUPUI on Friday night at Michael A. Carroll Stadium. The match was the Pioneers first on the road since Aug. 31 at Long Beach State.

"They came out with more energy than we did, and put us down one on an early corner kick," head coach Jeff Hooker said. "I felt that we kept our integrity throughout the second half, and created some good scoring chances, but fell short on the final pass and shot. We need to quickly put this game behind us and look to get a result on Sunday."

IUPUI's Grace Perkowitz headed in a corner from around the six in the fourth minute to give the Jaguars an early 1-0 lead. Kalli Shepler-Tucker served in the dangerous set play, and earned the assist on the breakthrough.

The Jaguars doubled their advantage in the 23rd minute on Krissy Kirkhoff's fifth goal of the season. Kirkhoff freed herself up for a shot from 16 yards out and rolled her left-footed striked just inside the right post.

Denver outshot IUPUI 19-10, and put 9 of its 19 shots on target.

The Pioneers continue their mini two-match road swing at Western Illinois on Sunday at 12 p.m. MT.
