DENVER - The Pioneers returned to their home court Sunday afternoon to face the Western Illinois Leathernecks for the second time this season. Sophomore Nola Basey led Denver into their 21st victory of the season with 13 kills at a .344 attack rate. This match was also the Pioneers' 14th sweep (25-18, 25-11, 25-16).
The University of Denver improved their overall attack rate throughout the three sets, beginning with .143 and ending with .333.
With a new lineup for the match against Western Illinois, the Pioneers highlighted the potential of a few younger players. Stat leaders for this match included Basey, freshman Piyusha Boteju with 19 assists, junior Sarah Schmid with four blocks and one ace and freshman Cassidy Rooke with 12 digs.
On the results of this particular match, coach Jesse Mahoney stated, "We had only one hour to prepare a different lineup as one of our players was ill. Piyusha Boteju and Monique Domme have been practicing very well, and they executed offense for us in a highly effective manner this afternoon. Cassie Baird came in as an extra outside hitter and did a great job. Overall, we played some high-level volleyball today."
