NEW YORK, N.Y. – University of Denver junior Erik Adamson (Anaheim Hills, Calif.) and freshman Christian Burgdorf (Westfield, N.J.) were significant contributors to the Pioneers’ 10-7 victory over then-No. 6/8 Notre Dame in California on Saturday, and both were recognized for their efforts with BIG EAST weekly awards on Monday. Adamson was named the Offensive Player of the Week and Burgdorf the Defensive Player of the Week.
The win propelled the Pioneers back into the top 10 in both major polls on Monday. Denver checks in at No. 9 in each and hosts No. 5/7 Penn State on Monday at 9 p.m. Eastern in the first of four midweek games for BIG EAST teams. Three games are on Tuesday, with Marquette visiting No. 6/4 Duke, Providence at Massachusetts and Georgetown hosting Furman.
BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week
ERIK ADAMSON, DENVER Jr., M, Anaheim Hills, Calif.
Adamson notched a career-high six goals in the Pios' 10-7 victory over then-No. 6/8 Notre Dame on Saturday. He converted on six of his eight shots in goal. He opened the scoring at the 7:57 mark of the first quarter and completed the hat trick 51 seconds into the second to put Denver up 4-1. His EMO goal with 11:27 left in the game put Denver up 8-5, and he added another EMO tally with 2:14 left to set the final score.
BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week
CHRISTIAN BURGDORF, DENVER Fr., D, Westfield, N.J.
Charged with covering Notre Dame All-American Matt Kavanaugh, Burgdorf put forth a stellar effort in holding one of the nation's top offensive threats without a point in Denver's 10-7 victory. Kavanaugh entered the contest fourth in the nation in points per game and eighth in assist average. Burgdorf has started all six games this season on close defense and normally draws the opponent's top offensive threat.
BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
ANDREW BARTON, PROVIDENCE Sr., M, Timonium, Md.
Finished the week with six goals and five assists for 11 points in a 1-1 week. Scored twice with five dishes in a 14-11 win over Fairfield.
CONNOR MURPHY, RUTGERS Fr., A, Clifton, Va.
Finished with five goals and nine points in two victories. Finished with one goal and one assist in Tuesday's 9-8 overtime win at No. 20 Army before posting four goals, three assists and seven points in his first career start against Monmouth.
COLIN KEEGAN, ST. JOHN'S Sr., A, Springfield, Pa.
Finished the week with eight points with five goals and three assists across two games.
JOHN LoCASCIO, VILLANOVA Sr., LSM/D, Fairfield, N.J.
Turned in a performance with eight groundballs, three caused turnovers and one assist in Villanova's 12-11 loss to No. 14 Penn.
TYLER KNARR, GEORGETOWN Gr., FO, Eagleville, Pa.
Went 17-of-26 on face-offs and picked up 12 groundballs in the Hoyas' 15-7 loss to Harvard. Won his 300th career face-off against the Crimson.
