Denver Golf Teams Unveil Indoor Practice Facility

DENVER – The University of Denver Division of Athletics and Recreation with the support of dedicated alumni and friends of the DU golf program unveiled the latest facility addition to the Daniel L. Ritchie Center. The 2,100 square foot DU Golf Indoor Practice Facility is now complete and ready for use by both the men’s and women’s golf teams.

“Our student-athletes are very fortunate to call the Highlands Ranch Golf Club home for Pioneer golf, and now right here on campus our teams have another first-class facility for individual instruction and to hone their skills during inclement weather situations,” said Vice Chancellor for Athletics and Recreation Peg Bradley-Doppes. “Our Division is indebted to all the donors involved in making this fantastic addition a reality. Their vision for this space is another example of how our DU community is always forward-thinking.”

Located on the first floor inside the Daniel L. Ritchie Center, the room transformation took four months to complete. Prior to becoming the new indoor golf facility, the space had previously been home to the strength and conditioning room for all student-athletes. The building of the new state-of-the-art Pat Bowlen Strength and Conditioning Complex made it possible for the area to be repurposed for the men’s and women’s golf programs.

"This facility will not only help our current players improve their games year round, but it will be a huge recruiting tool for us in the future,” said head women’s golf coach Lindsay Kuhle. “Our players can practice their short game, video their full swing, and play different courses on the simulators throughout the year. These activities will take place not only during team practices, but on their own time- in between classes, after workouts, and during study breaks. This will benefit both programs and we hope to see improvements in every player from full swing, to putting and chipping.”

The Golf Indoor Practice Facility includes the following:

  • A 30x50 ft. putting green and chipping areas      surrounding
  • Two full screen simulators
  • Two full-swing motion analysis equipped with Head Measurement Technology and smart camera
  • Lockers for both DU teams
  • Player’s Clubhouse

The full screen simulators provided by Foresight Sports offers a launch monitor to track a player’s ball virtually, while the JC Video Head Measurement Technology captures club analytics from club selection to swing motion. The full screens archive hundreds of golf courses around the nation and internationally to imitate live, in-game situations from Pebble Beach to Augusta National. J.C. Video Motion Analysis installed two swing recorders that enable the user to analyze their swing from motion, speed, point of contact, path of the club, distance and spin.

“I can’t thank all of our donors enough for their contributions to make our indoor facility a reality, said head men’s golf coach Eric Hoos. “Our current and future players now have a state-of-the-art indoor facility to practice in and work on their games in spite of what mother-nature may throw at us.  We can now have quality practice and simulation exercises that will not only greatly aide in our tournament preparation but also enhance our programs stature on a national level and help bring the top players to this University.”
