DU Hockey Alumni Pro Camp Set for Next Week

Aug. 7, 2014

DENVER - Next week, DU will host its annual Hockey Alumni Pro Camp, where players from various professional hockey clubs will practice in Joy Burns Arena as a way to stay in shape for their respective upcoming seasons and reunite with former teammates.

The camp will begin on Monday, Aug. 11 and conclude Friday, Aug. 15, and goes from 10:15 am-1:00 pm daily. All days are free and open to the public.

This summer, three former Pioneer standouts were busy inking new contracts. Paul Stastny (St. Louis), Chris Butler (St. Louis) and Joe Colborne (Calgary) all signed NHL deals with their hometown teams.

Prior to his move to St. Louis, Stastny called DU's Magness Arena home from 2004-06 as a Pioneer, and was a member of the Colorado Avalanche for all eight years of his NHL career. The former Pioneer also participated in two Olympics (2010 and 2014) as well as the 2013 World Championships for Team USA, during which he earned a silver and bronze medal, respectively. On July 1, Stastny signed a contract for four years, $28 million (see here for further details).

As a member of the Flames and Buffalo Sabres, Butler has compiled 76 points on 10 goals and 66 assists in 356 games, including seven playoff games with the Sabres in 2010-11. Butler played for the Pioneers from 2005-08, and signed as a free agent to a one-year, two-way contract with the Blues for $650,000 (see here for further details).

Colborne has played 96 games in the NHL for the Flames and Toronto Maple Leafs, scoring 34 points on 11 goals and 23 assists. At DU, Colborne played from 2008-10, and on July 22 avoided arbitration by re-signing with the Flames to a two-year contract worth $2.55 million (see here for further details).
