Oct. 31, 2015 The University of Denver men's golf team wrapped up the autumn portion of its 2015-16 schedule on Saturday, firing a 296 (+12) in the third and final round of the 2015 Stockton Pacific Invitational to finish the 16-team tournament in fifth place at +33 with a cumulative score of 885. This is the Pioneers' best finish so far this season with four of their ten events now completed.
Sophomore Pio Chris Korte (Littleton, Colo.) led DU's charge in north-central California, finishing T-5th in the field of 88 with a 54-hole score of 214 (+1). Korte opened and closed with rounds of 73 and carded a stellar 68 (-3) in between, registering the best finish for a Pioneer thus far in 2015-16 in the process.
"I'm very proud of our team for concluding the fall portion of our season with a Top 5 finish," Denver head coach Erik Billinger said following Round 3 of the tournament. "I'm especially excited and proud of Chris for earning a Top 5 finish individually in a very talented field. It has been fun and rewarding to watch his game evolve and mature since he joined us as a freshman last year."
"With the opening leg of our schedule behind us, it's now time to work hard over the upcoming winter break and get ready for the spring season," Billinger added.
Denver's 2015-16 continues in the new year in Tucson, Ariz. at the Arizona Intercollegiate (Jan. 28-30). The Pios' full 2015-16 schedule can be viewed by clicking HERE.
