Oral Roberts 4-0 Denver (Stordahl 13', Lawrence 25', 49', Dellis 43')
TULSA - The University of Denver women's soccer team dropped its 2015 season finale 4-0 at Oral Roberts on Sunday afternoon at Case Soccer Complex.
Oral Roberts found a 13th minute breakthrough off a corner kick header from Maria Stordahl. Megan Guico was credited with the assist on Stordahl's second goal of the season. The Golden Eagles doubled their advantage in the 25th minute as ORU's Brittney Lawrence netted her ninth goal of the season. Kayla Keller found Lawrence in the middle of the area to give Oral Roberts a 2-0 lead in the middle of the first half.
Kylie Dellis received a 43rd minute cross from Chloe Basnett and put it into the back of the net off a counter attack for her second of the season to make it 3-0.
Junior Cassidy Rey (Arcadia, Calif.) and Tina Vargas (Issaquah, Wash.) split the two halves in goal on Sunday afternoon. Vargas saw action in her second match of the season for the Pioneers, making one save in the second 45.
Out of the intermission, Lawrence completed her brace in the 49th minute, scoring her 10th of the season on Megan Guico's second assist of the match.
For the second-consecutive match, Denver was forced to play without junior defensive midfielders Brooke Boothe (Ontario, Calif.) and Francesca Garzelloni (Parker, Colo.) due to injuries.
South Dakota's 2-0 win at IPFW earlier Sunday morning eliminated the Pioneers from the Summit League Championships.
With the loss, Denver finishes the 2015 campaign with a 4-12-1 record and 4-4-0 in its third season in the Summit League. The Pioneers graduate three from its 2015 roster in seniors Taylor Ivins (West Haven, Utah), Stella Norman (Lakewood, Colo.) and Vargas.
