As yet undefeated (4-0-0) on home ice this season, the DU Pioneers (7-5-2, 3-2-1-0 NCHC) welcome the SCSU Huskies (12-4-0, 6-2-0-0 NCHC) to Magness Arena this weekend for a pair of intraconference showdowns. Tickets to both games (Friday – 7:36pm, Saturday – 7:06pm) can be obtained by clicking HERE. Friday’s game is being televised by ROOT Sports while both contests will be streamed via PioneerVision and air live on 104.3 FM The Fan.
Fans attending this weekend’s series are invited to take part in the joint DU Athletics/CBS4 Toy Drive by dropping off new, unwrapped toys at the Pioneers Marketing Kiosk located inside Magness Arena. All fans making a donation will receive a free voucher redeemable for complimentary tickets to a DU men’s/women’s basketball game of their choice.
Denver is 44-39-5 all-time versus St. Cloud State, a record which includes a 3-1-0 mark last season. Senior blueliner Nolan Zajac tallied 4GP-1G-3A-4P against the Huskies in 2014-15 while sophomore goaltender Tanner Jaillet went 3-0-0 (1.12 GAA, .966 SV%) in his three appearances versus SCSU. In eight career games against the Huskies, junior winger Trevor Moore has tallied 4G-5A-9P while senior center Quentin Shore has registered 1G-7A-8P in his last eight games against SCSU.
The Pioneers continue to be led in scoring in 2015-16 by junior blueliner Will Butcher who enters this weekend’s action with 3G-9A-12P (13GP) on the season, good for third place in the NCHC in points by a defenseman (T-7th, NCAA). Colorado’s fifth pick, 123rd overall, at the 2013 NHL Entry Draft, Butcher will go head-to-head with his fellow Avalanche prospect Ben Storm this weekend as the 6’7”, 230-lb. rearguard visits Magness Arena along with his fellow SCSU student-athletes. Storm was drafted by the Avs one round after they selected Butcher, 153rd overall. Senior forwards David Morley (16GP-7G-11A-18P) and Kalle Kossila (16GP-3G-15A-18) are tied for first place in the Huskies Scoring Race while junior goaltender Charlie Lindgren has started 15 of SCSU’s 16 games so far this season, ranking first in the NCHC in wins with 11 (3rd, NCAA) and T-1st in shutouts with 4 (T-3rd, NCAA).
“The Huskies are a talented team with great depth up front and a solid goaltender so this weekend will be a good challenge for us,” says DU bench boss Jim Montgomery. “It’ll definitely be nice to have a couple of home games as we’ve been away from Magness, where we’ve had a lot of success this year, for over a month. We’re looking forward to hitting the ice in front of our great fans.”
