Feb. 10, 2015

Final Results

SAN ANTONIO, Texas -
The University of Denver men's golf team completed their first tournament of the spring season with a ninth place finish in the Oak Hills Invitational. The Pioneers shot +28 on the difficult Oak Hills Country Club course. Baylor won the tournament at 2-under par, followed by host school Texas-San Antonio (+14) and Oklahoma (+19).

Denver's Petter Mikalsen (Stavanger, Norway) shot a 4-under par 67 on the final round to lead the Pioneers at +1 for the tournament, good for a tie for fifth place. Patrick Frodigh (Westwood, Mass.) entered the final round in fourth place but shot a 5-over on the day to complete his tournament at 3-over par, putting him in a tie for 10th place. Arti Edelman (Geneva, Switzerland) had a solid final round, shooting 2-under par and finished the tourney at +6 putting him in a tie for 24th place. Kyle Jones of Baylor, at 8-under par won the tournament, two shots better than Preston Stanley of Houston Baptist.

"Great rounds today by Petter and Arti," said Denver head coach Erik Billinger. "The pins were tougher today and patience and course strategy was critical to playing well. Patrick also had a wonderful tournament. Good things are ahead this spring for us, as we are learning about what we need to work on to clean up the cards and also have stronger scores from our four and five guys."

Next up for the Pioneers, a trip to Palm Springs, California to partake in the Desert Intercollegiate beginning on February 21st.
