Feb. 24, 2015 ANCHORAGE, Alaska - The Nordic races scheduled for Tuesday at Kinkaid Park have been postponed until Wednesday due to unfavorable conditions.
"Anchorage hasn't had much snow this season, so the snow is very thin on the race courses here," said Nordic head coach David Stewart. "The organizers did an amazing job to just barely pull off the races on Monday with the snow literally melting beneath the athlete's skis during the race."
The women's 5K Classic interval start is slated to begin at noon MST. The men's 7.5K classic interval start begins at 1 p.m. MST. If conditions don't meet the coach's standards, the races will be pushed back until Thursday.
"Today's race was cancelled due to standing water on the race course but the forecast calls for freezing temperatures and a little snow so the races should go off on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday," Steward explained. "They are accustomed to challenging weather and snow conditions here in Anchorage, so I am confident that the organizers will pull off quality races after they are able to prepare the courses."
Also on the docket tomorrow, the men's and women's giant slalom.
